Dr. Andi’s Theory after Surgical Procedure

Dr. Andi has developed a personal theory regarding the immune response to metal implants in dogs that undergo surgical procedures. According to her theory, there is a low-grade inflammatory response to the foreign metal in the body, which the body perceives as not belonging there. This response can sometimes manifest as a bacterial infection that requires treatment with antibiotics. However, there are cases where no infection is present, and the only solution is to remove the metal implants, especially if it has been a year or at a certain point.

As a professional pet chiropractor and raw feeder, Dr. Andi recommends that the plates be removed from your dog’s body. Despite the lack of visible symptoms and your dog’s current well-being, she firmly believes that there is always a low-grade response to metal that has been pounded into the body. In fact, she personally chooses to forego the use of TPLO surgery on her own animals and opts for alternative surgical options instead.

Dr. Andi shared an interesting case during her work with a Labrador. The dog had suffered from CCL tears at just 18 months old, which had caused lumbosacral instability and made it difficult for him to walk properly. Dr. Andi believed that the instability may have led to further complications down both of the dog’s legs. After working with the dog for several years and seeing no improvement, Dr. Andi suggested to the owner that the plates be removed. To her surprise, the dog showed a significant recovery within days of the surgery, improving by 80-90%.
